Cherokee

(written in 2002 —many of my poems are copyrighted)

Home is “Dancing Rabbit”
Foothills of her ancient
Native mountains
Through her blood

The old potter woman
Her hands
Suffering some
But her heart full

Her movements in the clay
Keeping her bony
Bones nimble
Her age a secret

Her ancestors talking
Through her fingers
Living and loving
In her heart

Old Cherokee woman
My blood also calls
Waiting for your
Instruction
